Would the object-oriented approach to programming : in C++ help in some of the complicated operations involved in encryption : methods such as DES and other complicated schemes? The actual bit-grinding encryption/decryption algorithms would be best implemented the same way in C++ as in C. The advantages of using C++ will be in the structuring of an encryption library. Good C++ classes for encryption and decryption hide a lot of the mundane data-handling work from the user. The same interface can support many interchangeable algorithms. The class can keep track of keys, chained values and partially computed blocks without the user having to constantly pass these in and out. The class may handle buffering internally and provide a state-driven interface, so when encrypting the user can pass in plaintext strings of any size as they're available and read out ciphertext as it's needed. --Bryan
