It is illegal to export PGP code and binaries, but it is not illegal to export PGP book and code in a text format. This indeed has been done. The book containing the whole PGP code had been printed and exported to Europe. There the book has been read back using OCR, and PGP is not freely available from Europe without any export restrictions. > Having said that, indivisual ISPs may elect to ban PGP or MUDs for > whatever reason they wish. I'm not sure they can do that. PGP is a tool you have installed on your own private machine, you can encrypt any correspondence and put it in your own private mail messages as plain (although undecipherable) text. Then you use your Internet provider simply to send that e-mail to the addressee. What can they do about that? -- Zdzislaw Meglicki, gustav@indiana.edu, Indiana University, OVPIT, Franklin Hall 116, Bloomington, Indiana 47405-2801, USA, ph: 812-856-5597, fax: 812-855-3310, CU-SeeMe: 129.79.207.179 http://blanc.ovpit.indiana.edu/gustav
