Check out this month's Discover for an article on using quantum mechanics to generate a completely random bit-encryption key for two parties. Using a new key for each message makes it virtually uncrackable. The slick part is that if a third party tries to intercept the key, the quantum effects guarantee that they can't get it without affecting the recieved keys. They've got a working model that runs up to 200 feet. Not very practical, but enough to show that it works. -- Don't leave things unfini
