Could anyone tell me where I could find algorithms
(and possibly C implementations) of some checksum
algorithms?

The Dr Dobbs journal may 1992 has some articles (with source) on
CRC'2 and Fletcher checksums. Especially the fletcher chechsums
are IMO reccomended. They are fast simple and good.
