TURMEL: Petition to Queen Elizabeth to join LETS

Putting a Pauper under the Royalty and Government section of
the Guinness book of records has much unique potential. Having a
Pauper on the same page as Emperor Bokassa with his most
expensive coronation in history is a good example. You can
imagine him riding into town on his Eagle jet. You can imagine me
riding into town on my Greyhound bus. You can imagine him in his
limousine off to his palace. You can imagine me hoofing it off to
the YMCA. There's a picture of him on his throne of gold while I
have to share my throne with everyone on my floor and and the
only gold I might get to see is down in the bowl. Talk about the
Joker in the Deck. Putting the Pauper King of the Fringers on the
same page as the Rich Kings is the grist for a thousand punch
lines. And there are other sensational angles for bringing global
attention to LETS to come.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is also on the same page with me
as the longest serving Queen. So I've posted a Petition of Right
urging Her Majesty open a Greentally account and join her other
tens of thousands of subjects across Her Commonwealth in one big
LETSystem. I've always argued that direct connection to the Crown
was financial salvation and now I'm going to attempt to get me
one. And get you all one with me.

*Dec. 11, 1996
*
*To: Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who wears the Guinness Crown
*for longevity among Royalty.
*
*From: Her Subject John "The Engineer" Turmel who wears the
*Guinness Crown on that page for persistence among Pauperty.
*
*Your Majesty:
*
* Your Majesty may not recall my waving at you as a child
*during your 1950s motorcade through Hamilton Ontario.
*
* Your Majesty may not recall my saluting you as a member of
*Your Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa Honour Guard during Canada's
*1967 Centennial festivities on Parliament Hill.
*
* But Your Majesty should remember me during the patriation of
*our constitution at the church receiving line where I had traded
*in my Cameron bonnet for an engineer's hard-hat and my rifle for
*a 10 square foot placard pleading "Abolish Interest." As Ian
*McLeod noted in his Apr 16 1982 Ottawa Citizen report:
*
* "John Turmel and his brother, Ray, involved in on-going
*court battles to abolish interest rates and legalize gambling,
*carried placards. As her car swept by, the Queen leaned forward
*to read the simple message: "Abolish Interest." A quizzical look
*on her face, she appeared to mouth the two words."
*
* I would like to inform Your Majesty of the development of a
*network of interest-free LETSystems in your realm. With over 400
*branches in Great Britain serving almost 50,000 of your loyal
*subjects and with start-up of new ones being funded by the state,
*with almost 200 in Australia, 100 in New Zealand, dozens in
*Canada, it is imperative that the Crown avail itself of the
*interest-free funds which LETS members wish to grant our Queen.
*
* The size of the Internet is doubling every two years. The
*size of the LETS interest-free currency Global network is
*doubling every one year. There are now 2,500 LETS software
*branches and there should be 40,000 interest-free LETS branches
*ringing the globe by the turn of the millennium.
*
* Enclosed is the "Loyal Engineer's 1997 Petition of Right to
*Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II" requesting Her Majesty join tens
*of thousands of her already-connected subjects in opening a Royal
*interest-free LETS Greentally account.
*
* I will be in Great Britain during the week before Christmas
*and request an audience to present Your Majesty with information
*regarding the rise of LETSystems within Your Commonwealth hoping
*the engineering can be prepared before Your Majesty's Christmas
*message.
*
* A "do-it-Yourself" computerized LETS Royal Tally where each
*tally is worth an hour's work for compatibility with Time dollar
*systems permitting Your subjects to do work for Your Royal
*Credits would be the best Christmas present both Your Majesty and
*your subjects could ever receive.
*
* I'm sure LETS organizers from Great Britain, Australia and
*New Zealand would hasten to join me in any short-notice
*presentation Your Majesty would allow.
*
* Also enclosed are "The Adventures of John The Engineer
*Turmel" detailing many of my efforts on the Abolish Interest
*Rates Project with the Citizen article found on page 113.
*
* I further wonder if Crown Prince Charles might wish to meet
*the Pauper whose "Abolish Interest" sign he also saw 9 times
*during his visit to Ottawa. The Crown Prince should be interested
*in the choice between the current antique 10,000-year-old banking
*software or an upgrade fit for a Third-millennium reign.
*
* Information on whether having a Royal GreenTally account in
*one big national LETS is to the Crown's advantage may be obtained
*by starting a web search at the www.u-net.com/gmlets site.
*
* Hoping the Prince can get organized as fast as the Pauper,
*I am,
*
*     Respectfully yours,
*
* John "Your Majesty's Engineer" Turmel
*
*
*            LOYAL ENGINEER'S 1997 PETITION OF RIGHT
* TO HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II
*
*The day I got my 1997 Guinness Book,
*Of Worldly Records, for my name, Turmel, I had to look.
*I noted on same page, Elizabeth, Your Majesty,
*Holds record among ruling Queens for Your longevity.
*Perhaps P.M. of India, Morarji "wise" Desai,
*Who holds a record on next page for age at work most high,
*Imparted to Your Majesty the secret of his youth,
*A secret I have verified as nature's greatest truth.
*
*Your Majesty may not recall that during '50s tour,
*In Hamilton, a child on father's shoulder, waving sure.
*Your Majesty may not recall on Parliament's front yard,
*On Canada's Centennial, a Cameron in Your Guard.
*But Majesty should not forget in 1983,
*At patriation of our constitution meeting me,
*My soldier's bonnet now a hard-hat for "The Engineer,"
*My rifle now a pauper's picket sign with message clear:
*
*"Abolish Interest," reporters saw on Regal lips,
*Which made well worth the effort of nine different picket trips.
*I bring you joyful news of abolition in your realm,
*Of usury but soon we'll need Your guidance at the helm.
*Within Your Commonwealth have risen systems LETS of hope,
*So paupers of Your Commonwealth with unemployment cope.
*Parliamentary member in Australia, Maggie Dheam,
*Said LETS is helping needy trade employment like a dream.
*
*Four hundred branches serving fifty thousand Brits to date,
*With branches new developing with funding from the State!
*Two hundred in Australia where legislation passed,
*Exempted needy from the tax on income LETS amassed.
*With Councils offered Green, there is no need for funds to hunt,
*Laws passed allowing councils to accept Green tax up front.
*Within New Zealand are a hundred LETS to save the day,
*With dozens more in Canada to pave the better way.
*
*At end of 1994, six hundred LETS around,
*At end of 1995, twelve hundred LETS abound.
*Two thousand and five hundred at the end of '96,
*It's doubling yearly exponentially, the world to fix.
*Your subjets who have joined the barter LETS make accolade:
*"The trade of goods and services more easily is made.
*The program that is used to track our "trading work" accounts,
*Is known around the world as LETS. To barter it amounts.
*
*"Local Employment Trading System" is the name it got,
*To run the banks' computers right, a way once vainly sought.
*Greendollars are the currency used in a LETS account,
*Without the interest that forces growth of due amount.
*A member who is spending may go negative at will,
*A positive goes to the one who makes use of his skill.
*And though we use no money, we have found a way to trade,
*A giant step in the reform of money has been made.
*
*A butcher bought some pastry at the bakery one day,
*And called the LETS exchange recorder. He was heard to say:
*"Please debit 20 dollars Green from my account for cake.
*A credit to account of baker, you, in Green, should make.
*The baker took his family to the restaurant one night,
*And called the LETS exchange recorder and was heard to cite:
*"Please debit 20 dollars Green from my account for meal,
*And credit the account of restauranteur in this deal."
*
*The restauranteur, needing meat, had Green with which to buy,
*And called the LETS exchange recorder to so testify:
*"Please debit 20 dollars Green from my account for meat.
*And credit the account of butcher. Circle's now complete!"
*Some didn't like to call for every deal they wished to make,
*So each agreed all other's checks in Green they all would take.
*The butcher went to bakery to buy some loaves of bread,
*And used a check on which "Worth 20 dollars Green" it said.
*
*The baker took his family out to dine and eat their fill,
*And used the butcher's $20 check to pay the bill.
*The restauranteur paid for time he spent in dentist's chair,
*The dentist used the $20 check for car repair.
*The check from the mechanic paid for caring of a nurse,
*Her plumber gladly nodded when she took it from her purse.
*The plumber's children's music teacher for the check was keen,
*Because she knew her seamstress happily took all her Green.
*
*To her account the check was duly credited at last,
*And 20 dollar debit to the butcher was amassed.
*But had she spent it at the butcher shop, we'd get to see,
*Completion of the circle meant the trades were all for free."
*A mayor faced with rising costs and shrinking revenues,
*To study any proposition, he would not refuse.
*"So many think the job of being mayor is such a snap,
*But the decisions that I'm faced with are an ugly trap.
*
*With tools, materials and trades that cover total range,
*Yet one ingredient is lacking, money to exchange.
*If snowstorm hits the city and there are no funds to pay,
*What does my council have to do to clear the snow away?
*We pledge a million dollar bond to banks to get the cash,
*With which we pay the skillful men who clear snow in a flash.
*The merchants gladly take the funds for soon they have to pay,
*The taxes for the snow removal that was done that day.
*
*But though a million principle was spent, we must request,
*That citizens be taxed for principle and interest.
*To budget who gets scarce resources isn't ever fun,
*But interest on city's debt is always number one.
*Whatever rate the bankers set is due amount I pay,
*Unhappily, which projects live or die's my only say.
*But if it's true Greendollars serve as well as Locals tell:
*Why shouldn't government be one to try it out as well?
*
*When another snowstorm hits without the funds to pay,
*We'll test to see if LETS Greendollars are a better way.
*This time we pledge the million bond to Treasury instead,
*And see if use of Green will get us very much ahead.
*The merchant should accept Greendollars as another way,
*His taxes needed for the snow removal, he can pay.
*Again we'll spend a million but the tax to be assessed,
*Including only principle without the interest.
*
*Before the budget allocations are completely spent,
*Could LETS Greendollars help reverse project abandonment?
*If council members for their tax took part of pay in Green,
*We'd have some cash left over which is something rarely seen.
*If civil service took some Green at least for taxes due,
*The extra cash would guarantee that extra jobs ensue.
*We'd offer Green to fix a pothole to a company,
*Wishing to pay their tax with unemployed capacity.
*
*With Green we'd pay for road repairs and all would gladly take,
*Greendollars from the working men so payment all could make;
*And we could build our hospitals and all would take as pay,
*Greendollars to buy medicine and service they purvey.
*Today, in our society, where money clearly lacks,
*Who could refuse some paper anyone may use for tax?
*Greendollar paychecks could be earned by all desiring work,
*The opportunity to pull their weight so few would shirk.
*
*With Green the unemployed around the world will save the day,
*Without it they will idly sit and die their lives away.
*And best of all we'd have the Green to save environment,
*A way to pay to save our lives and make us affluent.
*The only question left is how the tax should be assessed,
*For goods and services? A simple formula to test.
*For services, we'd levy tax at end of every year.
*For assets, tax to pay depreciation. It's so clear.
*
*The government that spent the most and had the highest tax,
*Would be the government providing citizens the max.
*We're told that government finance is only for the sage,
*Too hard for Mr. Average, its study to engage.
*But does it have to be well understood by only few?
*Or can the problem be explained for Mr. Average too?
*A closer look at how our governments spend revenue,
*Might let us know what's gone amiss and what we have to do.
*
*When you were little, did you ever dream of printing cash?
*Of filling up your wallet with some money in a flash?
*Creating money accurately means TO HAVE THE PLATES,
*The stamping of some paper into notes best demonstrates;
*Or stamping metal into coins; or blips computerized,
*Into your bank account deposits, checks now authorized.
*So whether paper, metal, volts of electricity,
*TO HAVE THE PLATES is printing money absolutely free.
*
*Now if you printed to spend, the others would bewail,
*They'd call it counterfeiting and send you off to jail.
*But what if Crown would let you merely print it up to lend?
*With only what you could collect in interest to spend?
*If you could print and lend a thousand out at ten percent,
*You'd make a hundred interest on printing that you lent.
*But if you could print up and lend a million out you'd get,
*An extra hundred thousand dollars for your fee on debt!
*
*If Crown stops using its own money plates and comes to you,
*A billion printed nets a hundred million revenue!!
*With everybody being taxed to pay you interest,
*Of all the scams in history, TO HAVE THE PLATES is best!!!
*Though never spending, only lending, riches to await,
*To all who with the plates become the loan-sharks to the state.
*And though to join the few who thusly profit, one might dream,
*Wake up to see we're all the victims of their greedy scheme.
*
*While Crowns of old had ruled that "Treasury run money plates,"
*Without the interest to middle-men at rip-off rates,
*Today most governments to banking industry have lost,
*Control of money plates so interest is now a cost.
*To service debt in ninety four, Canada's request,
*A hundred'n eighty billion dollars paid in interest.
*We're taxed over five hundred dollars each per month to pay,
*For interest to holders of our plates they gave away!!!
*
*We now see the unjustly cost that makes our tax inflate,
*And only usury is what we must eliminate.
*We Abolitionists would get the plates back from the banks,
*Have Treasury control for only service charge and thanks.
*The interest we save could be split up I recommend,
*For each to get five hundred dollars monthly dividend,
*As if you owned a share in the incorporated state,
*An income guaranteed for life, no question, no debate.
*
*And though retired residents do often feel dismay,
*They shouldn't fear if we should take their interest away.
*All those who live on saving bonds to furnish what they spend,
*Could buy some stocks, create some jobs and get a dividend.
*Does Majesty agree control of plates by banks should end,
*With no more tax for interest on money bankers lend?
*The most successful Royal LETS was in the British Isle,
*Where "Tallies," sticks of money, left King Henry I with smile.
*
*Accountants in the Treasury would split the stick in two,
*One half would be the money and the other half its due.
*A Tally worth a pound of gold to pay the King's expense,
*The other half amounted to taxation that makes sense.
*The tax collectors through the land all had an easy way,
*Since people had their tallies and enough the tax to pay.
*The tallies funded projects and could pay for everything,
*With tallies matching tax, a hero, Henry I, their King.
*
*For over 700 years, the tallies were in use,
*But having lost control of money now is Crown excuse.
*By opening, Your Majesty, GreenTally LETS account,
*You'd find some 50,000 Loyal Subjects by your mount,
*Who will accept Your tax for people's time at useful toil,
*Though taxing us for money's time will always make us boil.
*The LETS can grant you love of subjects only Henry knew,
*As easy as a switch of disk by Say of Royal You.
*
*May Engineer bring Majesty in audience to date?
*On how a Royal LETS of Tallies might avail Your State.
*For Hour's work, a Royal Tally, would, with Christmas soon,
*Be hailed by all your loyal subjects as a Regal boon.
*No need to go to loansharks anymore, we think You're good,
*For any tallies that you spend in metal, scrip or wood.
*Fifty thousand LETSers give to Crown Your credit due,
*Without the bankers' hoop of usury you always knew.
*
*I'll pay Your tax for army and police to handle strife;
*I'll pay Your tax for doctors, nurses who protect my life;
*I'll pay Your tax for all engaged repairing road and sewer;
*I'll pay Your tax for social servants helping out the poor;
*I'll even pay Your tax for bureaucrats with no regret;
*But I'll resist Your tax for any interest on debt.
*"Abolish Interest" is the Petition of our Right,
*As loyal subjects pray out loud for show of Regal might.
*
*It's time to slay the dragon of our debt to foreign hands,
*I'm sure the Sword of LETS will satisfy Regal demands.
*In Matthew chapter 6 verse 9, Christ taught us how to pray:
*"When you are praying to your Regent, here is what you say:
*"Our Noble Queen, Elizabeth, honored be Thy Name,
*Thy Queendom come, Thy Will be done on earth as heaven, the same.
*Give us now our daily bread, forgive us all our debts,
*As we forgive our debtors all their debts by using LETS.
*
*And to temptation, lead us not, don't put us to the test,
*Deliver us with Tallies from their wicked interest." "

I'm coming to Great Britain for two reasons. I am coming to get in
and see the Queen or picket Buckingham Palace with a "We want a
Royal LETS" sign. And I am coming to place a bet. Hopefully,
Bookmakers William Hill will be willing to book The Gambler's
World's Biggest Bet. But that's a whole other story. I'll also
try out the Poker casinos in London for a report to the
rec.gambling.poker newsgroup.

But back to winning the biggest public boon rather than
winning the biggest private bet.

I have been picketing for years and one cannot imagine just
how effective it really is given the dismal results of major
protests around the world. Of course, a large crowd of people
chanting "Do something" never gets anywhere because they don't
really know where they really want to go.

Yet, one or two chanting "Do this" can do more than the
millions amongst whom they've sown ignorance and discord. They
should know what they want before they start screaming for change
or the change they get is always the change that makes it worse.

I can't imagine what kind of an impact it might have to have
all 50,000 UK LETS members in front of Buckingham Palace with
their families and friends chanting "Your Majesty's Green credit
is good with us if you join our Green credit system" and "We want
Royal LETS now." Fifty thousand LETS account inviting the regent
to join them in their lifeboat while she happens to be drowning
in debt would be much harder to ignore than millions with no
life-boat blueprints in and telling the regent to "do something."

Of course, people laugh that it's impossible to rouse a
large demonstration on short notice and they're probably right as
only a small percentage of today's LETSers have yet seen the
national and international visions.

But one wonders at what point the number of demonstrators
gets the Queen's attention? Would it take 10,000 LETSers in
public support of Her Majesty's national Tally system, or even
100 with the media covering us because we're the only Christmas
demonstration going on, what's the cut point?

I think we're all agreed that things could move fast if all
Commonwealth LETSers brought all their families and friends to
demonstrate to Her Majesty that they will save her resorting to
loansharks to finance the upkeep of Her Realm by accepting the
Royal Tallies she creates interest-free. Yes, I think couple of
hundred thousand subjects demanding the Queen open a LETS account
as her gift to her subjects and their gift of credit to her,
would be an irresistible pressure.

Then again, LETSers could simply open an account in her name
anyway, levy an agreed upon tax, and if she doesn't want to come
to the community to put those funds to work for a communal
purpose, you can always elect someone else to do her job for her.
You've been calling the pooling of funds for common good "Capital
LETS" so there's no reason anyone should have any trouble with
the idea of Royal LETS.

Anyway, I'm going to Britain to see what one man shouting
"Use LETS" can do. I was first to put the words "Abolish
Interest" on Her Majesty's lips and I'd love to be first to put
"Use LETS Green Tallies" on her lips as well.

If any UK LETSers who dream big want to join me in urging
Her Majesty to consider joining us in our LETS life-boats and
fusing them into one big Royal Battleship, get a computer
diskette, add a label which says LET$ and wear it proudly on your
lapel wherever you go.

I can use my Guinness record to throw the Public Relations
spotlight on LETS when I visit before Christmas but I need those
of you who share the vision of the biggest possible LETS to
provide the grass-roots pressure. Otherwise, I and my mate might
find ourselves picketing Buckingham Palace alone on Christmas day
as the Queen delivers her speech and we see this year's best
opportunity for a Commonwealth-wide LETS settle on a back-burner.

I'd also like to invite any LETSers to ready a presentation
for the Queen. The story will be the readiness of the
presentation, not whether it gets made or not.

So join The Pauper Engineer on the job picketing outside, if
not inside, Buckingham Palace during the Queen's Christmas speech
where we will relay a united prayer that she grant her subjects'
wish for one big Commonwealth-wide LETS by Christmas morning.

If you do come to our peaceful party in front of Buckingham
Palace, I won't consider you'll have earned the honor to be on
that front line if you have not added to the pressure on Her
Majesty and Her Government with letters, calls, anything you can
do to raise the awareness that a national Local Employment
Trading System could be set up by Christmas day.

It's time to do more than preach. You've all seen LETS work
on small databases. There is no logical reason it won't fly on
one large one. Only the clamor of all the paupers among us can
guarantee Her Majesty's attention. I won't consider myself truly
liberated from the financial middlemen until I have direct access
to the Queen's account and I will settle for nothing less.

To finance my European adventure, I just published a 1000
limited 8.5"x11" edition of "The Adventures of John "The
Engineer" Turmel," which includes my copyrighted "Poker Power
Tools" one of which I sent to the Queen and five of which were
filed in the Supreme Court of Canada. I'm certifying each one
personally. This is the index to topics and adventures.

I know that it sounds like a pot-pourri of oddities and
extras, and it is. Maybe that's why, in the US edition of
Guinness Record Book, I was not listed with the Royalty page but
shared the "Extra Extra" section on the back pages with the
Biggest Bagel in the world. Could they also apply for the Biggest
Bagel Hole? Like me, they also hold a second unheralded but
related record. As they mention I ran the most races but not that
I lost the most races, they mentioned their Largest Bagel but not
their Largest Bagel Hole.

I will personally number and authenticate each of the one
thousand copies and have created a database of registered owners
in case I hit it big one day and the book's value goes up. I'd
bet.

     Price is
     a) $50 Canadian + $5 postage and handling, or
     b) 5.5 GreenHours of LETS credit.
One book per person. Confirmation of sale will be emailed
back before payment is arranged. Price is subject to change as
stock goes down but any orders before changes in price will be
honored.

After sending Book #300 to Michael Linton, I have set aside
99 more books for the first 100 LETSystems which email me that
they have opened an account in my name and deposited the
equivalent of 5.5 hours manpower. I don't mind picking up the
postage for cash over here. Maybe I'll end up with enough UK LETS
currency to pay for accommodations and the rental of a large 120
bass accordion while I'm there.

I have set aside books #400-499 for the first 100 Monetary
Reformers who email an order and ask they point out anything they
have written or done which promoted the abolition of interest.
Sociable Crediters are automatically eligible.

I have set aside books #500-599 for the first 100 Canadians
who email their order.

I have set aside books #600-699 for non-Canadians who email
their order. I'm saving Book #666 in case I should ever need the
right gift at the right time for the right guy or gal.

I'll use others to reward our party's founding candidates,
friends, supporters and send some to Oprah, et al, and bet that
this very "unusual" book and the Guinness record for King of the
Paupers will get the LETS message into the international media
sooner than anyone thinks.

I'll also soon be applying for several more Guinness World
Records. The obvious one is for the most elections lost as well
as most elections run. I'm also thinking of most appearances in a
nation's highest court a) by a non-lawyer, 5 so far, soon maybe 6 if
my latest case is accepted for hearing; b) by a pauper, 2 so far,
soon maybe 3; c) for the first use of a videotaped memorandum in
Supreme Court, 1984, d) for the first indictment of usury as
genocide, 1981, e) most bank pickets, f) biggest gaming house
raid, (27 tables 122 employees), etc. After an initial listing,
I'm up to submitting for 34 odd firsts, lasts, mosts, or leasts
in the world. Working on the Global Abolish Interest Rates
Project for 18 years has given me the opportunity to do many very
unusual things.

Considering I might hold a record for most electoral debates
as well as most debates excluded from in a supposedly
"democratic" nation, I'd be interested in any putting the
speeches I've learned to use in any speaking engagements which
would include accommodations for two. Remember, the Pauper's
coming to visit on a shoe-string but I'll get there if the deal
includes helping paddle the canoe.

Hey, Maureen Mallinson, when your New Zealand Greendollar
National Meeting invited the Pauper Engineer to speak to you,
didn't I manage to get there on my own? Sure, you may have met my
flight from Honolulu at Auckland Airport but nobody saw me and
Pauline in Honolulu parking our canoe from Vancouver.

Remember, I've been an officially broke pauper owing Revenue
Canada $300,000 since the big Topaz gaming house raid 1993. If I
had kept any money, I'd be sitting in jail for up to 10 years.
Becoming a pauper again saved me from that threat. Yet, it's
funny how God always seems to provide as long as you're
faithfully on His Job.

Who knows, maybe Pauline's little book company will thrive
and my trips talking LETS become a "business expense."

So, the dice are cast. My next week is spent at the Poker
tables raising the funds for our airline tickets. Though Pauline
was born near Manchester, she stays home if I don't have a really
good week at the game. So watch out if you're sitting down in a
Poker game with me this week because I really bet God wants me
working on Christmas day this year. And it isn't the usual
playing accordion in hospitals. Or maybe it will be? Who knows
what adventures I'll have with accordion and my picket sign in
Great Britain, especially if bartering my book gets me some Green
to spend while I'm there.
