In more ways than one, many cultures and economies are racing toward the edges of a cliff--a $70 trillion overall debt, a black culture that despises learning, extremely high birth rates in Arab and negro cultures, a transition in our economy from high tech jobs to Starbucks-type jobs, and a political system that teaches people to seek handouts from pandering politicians. Haiti is just a nation made up purely of these kind of child-like slackers and their pandering politicians. There is no hope for Haiti. None. It cannot ever pull itself out of the muck....it's too hot and muggy and polluted for tourism, its people are not equipped to work in high tech factories (which failed even on well-developed islands, such as Barbados and Puerto Rico), and it basically has nothing to offer those in other countries. And the more "aid" that is sent, the worse things will get. (This is what helped to destroy Somalia: what happens to local farmers when Uncle Sam ships in cargo ships filled with free grain? They go bankrupt. Such is it always. Handouts make people dependent and destroy what little chance there is of a local economic recovery.) Haiti must simply be allowed to burn itself out. The small fraction that survives may then be able to gradually build a real economy. (Though I am doubtful of this, given the terrain and the lack of any reason for people to visit Haiti or buy things from them.) --Tim May
