Supercomputing '92 will sponsor an education program introducing high- performance computing to middle and high school teachers November 16 and 17, 1992 in Minneapolis. Sessions will include hands-on activities and demons- trations, as well as presentations by representatives from current high school supercomputing programs. Secondary educators are encouraged to apply for participation in the Supercomputing '92 Education Program. Representa- tion across all ethnic, racial, and gender boundaries is desired. The deadline for applications is October 8, 1992 (NOTE NEW DEADLINE!). For further information and an application, please contact: Ginger Caldwell, Supercomputing '92 Education Program Chair, National Center for Atmospheric Research, PO Box 3000, Boulder, CO 80307; Phone: (303) 497-1808, email: sc92info@ncar.ucar.edu. Some financial support is available. On Monday, November 16, Education Program participants may choose to attend up to four different lab sessions from the following selections: Accessing the Internet Network, Internet Resources and Tools, Ray Tracing, Climate Modeling, Visualization, and Computational Chemistry. IBM PCs and Macintosh personal computers will be available for use by participants to experience supercomputing applications first hand. Education sessions on Tuesday, November 17, are open to all conference attendees and include: Edu- cational Opportunities in Supercomputing for High School Teachers and Stu- dents, Funding for K-12 Computational Science and High-Performance Computing, and Use of Curriculum Materials in a Supercomputing Program for Secondary Teachers. All Supercomputing '92 activities will be open to Education Program par- ticipants as well. The Supercomputing '92 program will include 18 tutorials, 8 invited lecturers, and 80 technical paper presentations. There will be exhibitions sponsored by over 50 companies, plus Research Exhibits, a Visual- ization Theater, and Poster Exhibits. Also, current developments in super- computing technology will be featured utilizing SCinet '92, a scientific net- work that employs a high-speed communications network linking exhibitors and remote locations. SCinet offers an opportunity to see and experience hands- on demonstrations of the technical feasibility of building a networked super- computing environment using HIPPI, FDDI, Ethernet, local fiber, T3, and other technologies. In addition, a heterogeneous computing challenge will be hosted, with awards presented for applications running on the network during the conference. Supercomputing '92 will be held November 16-20, 1992 at the Minneapolis Convention Center, a state-of-the-art facility that was completed in December 1990. The unique Skyway System, a series of glass-enclosed, climate con- trolled second-floor walkways, connects almost 70 blocks of downtown Minneap- olis, including many of the hotels chosen to accommodate attendees. The IEEE Computer Society (IEEE) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) supercomputing conference is widely viewed as the premier event for high-performance computing technology. To receive additional information, please contact the Supercomputing '92 conference office at SCD/NCAR, PO Box 3000, Boulder, CO 80307, phone (303) 497-1808, fax (303) 497-1298.
