I have some questions about these figures for which I've never see answers. If anyone can answer them, I'd appreciate it very much: 1.) When calculating the "mean pupils per teacher", who is counted as a "teacher"? For example, are administrators included? Spec ed. teachers? Counselors? Certificated personnel at county offices? Personnel at state depts. of ed? The reason I ask this is because in California where I am, I don't know of any school district that have class sizes that average 22.8 pupils per teacher, so there must be more people included as teachers than just people who are really assigned to teaching. 2.) How are average salaries calculated? Again, does this include only people who are actually in classrooms teaching or does this include other personnel as well? 3.) Does the expenditure per pupil include state funds only or does this include federal funding? Are there other sources of funds included in this? Does this include funds that go to the state dep. of ed or does include only the funds that actually reach school districts? Does it include funding that goes for teacher education, staff development, and other similar purposes? Regards, Dennis Dawson Burlingame, California dawson@best.com
