Wireless Design Online
Signs Petrick as WLAN Columnist
-------------------------------

Parsippany, NJ (September 1998) - Wireless Design Online, the leading virtual
community for engineers and manufacturers in the wireless industry, has named
Al Petrick, an acknowledged expert on LAN, as columnist for a new section on
the site, found at http://www.wirelessdesignonline.com. Petrick, the senior
manager of strategic marketing for wireless products at Harris Semiconductor,
will write a monthly commentary titled The Wireless LAN Beat that will focus
on the technology and trends shaping the rapidly growing and changing WLAN
market.

Petrick is one of the founding team members of Harris Semiconductor's
wireless product line. In his strategic marketing role, Petrick is
responsible for product definition, market trends, and product strategies for
Harris' product line, which is part of Harris Semiconductor's Communications
Products Business. He is also vice chair of the IEEE 802.11 WLAN standards
committee. In his role as vice chairman, Petrick is a main contributor to the
development of the WLAN standard.

"The WLAN industry is one of the hottest segments in the wireless market,"
said Robert Keenan, managing editor of Wireless Design Online. "Over the past
year, a great amount of development time and resources have been devoted to
this market segment. Through our WLAN column, we will provide our users with
a continual update on the status of the market by looking at the technology,
products, and standards that are shaping it."

"My column will attempt to make sense of the many standards, converging
technologies, and market trends of what most believe will be an explosive
market in coming years," Petrick said. "I hope to make the column a forum for
idea exchange and debate. To that end, I solicit topics, opinions, and other
information on the wireless industry that might be interesting as a subject
of discussion."

Petrick has more than 15 years of combined marketing and systems engineering
design experience. He holds a BSET from the Rochester Institute of Technology
(Rochester, NY) and an MBA from the Crummer School of Graduate Business at
Rollins College (Winter Park, FL).

"We are very excited to have Al Petrick as the columnist of our WLAN
section," Keenan said. "His industry experience and presence on the IEEE
802.11 standards committee make him a valuable resource to the wireless
industry members visiting our site."
