If there is one thing palladium is not, its trusted. One of the first things any propagandist does its misuse the language. We would be more accurate to refer to it as an entirely unstrusted computing system. Just cos MS calls it trusted in no way means it is, or that we should call it trusted. IMHO the more muckysoft moves away from what the buyer wants, the more people will turn to linux and other OSes. And the more people will just use old MS OSes. Even here there is still the odd highly skiled person posting here using Win 3.1. And loads of poeple use 98 and ME and dont plan to change any time soon. MS is just getting itself more and more socially rejected, and at some point Linux will be user friendly enough for popular use. When that day comes, MS shares will be worth a fraction of what they are now. > I > really don't like the idea of my hardware being in cahoots with someone > sitting far away. locking me out of my own data. Or worse, my non-TCPA > equipment being 'rogue' and non-interoperable because it doesn't support > the technology. It's NOT about copyright protection, it's about freedom. Its all about control. When you replace your puter, you wont be able to move the data from one HDD to the next. Thats job creation for anyone MS certified. Much of the puter repair/service industry is probably unnecessary, and created by MS's massive bug rate. MS doesnt just want to sell you an OS, it wants all the control it can get away with. And it capitalises on it. The next step will be approved peripherals, approved memory, etc. MS wants to control the market, then charge fees for approval. > And then 'security' is brought up as the justification. Ridiculous. Palladium is no answer to security issues. The solutions are much more down to earth. Chris Carlen wrote: >Just look at junkies. And everyone is still using Windows. Anyone who >claims to be a human being who values freedom and democracy, and who >does nothing to abandon Windows, is a hypocrite. I think for most of us its just a realistic choice. The net isnt too secure or private either, but we choose one over the other. Rightly. Freedom isnt the _only_ thing that matters. And using computers gives it far more than it takes. Thats life!
