In days of yore when it took 50msec/byte to burn an EPROM (remember the 2716 ?)
I would give it 1msec programming 'zaps' until the bits held at '0', then gave
it an extra zap for insurance. I could program these guys in about 10 seconds
instead of the usual 90 or so seconds. Also reduces erasure time. The bits
were basically 'at threshold' and could be pushed to 1's by shining a light
into the window. Not reliable long-term, but OK for hacking.
Yeah, so what. But when you're an impatient hex-code hacker, time is of the
essence.
