I, to, have had this problem once in a while but have found most 
cameramen pretty darn accurate. Another thing I ALWAYS do is include
a rule in the artwork. Something like this:

     |----|----|----|----|----|----|
     |                             |
     |<-------- 3 INCHES --------->|
     |                             |

Then, standing in the shop with my check just out of the guys
reach ( :-) ), I measure the negative. If it's off I have him
do it again.

Works for me.
