Copper deposition is definately possible, but the process I have seen would be out of the reach of most people. A company called Lintek here on Australia can "grow" a pcb pattern on just about any substrate, 2 or 3 dimensional. They do this by depositing a layer, suitably masked, by plasma deposition in a vacuum. The accuracy is almost unbelievable, I have seen a board with five traces emerging from between two adjacent ic pins. Once the vapor deposition is done the traces are "grown" to the required thickness by electroplating. I wish I had thought of it !
