I've got a busted 1983 vintage PC-compatible machine I'm trying to rehab
-- it's a Columbia Data Products portable, one bus slot, 2 floppies,
128K RAM.  Now I know it's only worth about $100, so telling me it's not
worth my time would be useless -- OF COURSE IT'S NOT!!

But I'm going to try anyway.  I'm going into computer engineering, and
heck, what am I risking anyway?  The dang thing's already broke.

Now, I won't get into it any further here except to relay the error
message I get.

When I turn the machine on, the screen comes up with "I/O CH ERROR",
does NOT spin the drive to look for DOS, and a few moments later gives
me "CKSUM ERROR".  I know nothing more; I have inspected the motherboard
visually and hve found nothing glaringly wrong.

If you had/have a Columbia, are an old Columbia engineer, or just know
something about hardware -- please contact me.  I want to fix the
machine, but more importantly I want to use it as a guinea pig and find
out whatever I can in the process.
