The 7497 is a "6-bit" Synchronous Binary Rate Multiplier." It is/was made by National Semiconductor and Texas Instruments. Many of these "What Is It" questions can be answered by reference to the "IC Master," published yearly (with two interim updates) by Hearst Publishing. The "D.A.T.A." books can also be consulted, although, I, for one, find them less useful.
