Dear Connectors,

does anybody have specific information about systems, which can store
thermal energy in forms of either chemical or crystal (structure) energy ?
I have read about storing energy in a sulfuric acid - water system based
on the hydratation enthalpy of sulfuric acid.

Also systems like sodium sulfate / Water are known and -i guess- used in a
BMW to heat the engine before starting. I would like to gain some
technical information about that. (is it patented ?-- sure ! :-( )
They are latent energy collectors

Any suggestion of systems that may work well or systems that posess lots
of usable enthalpy resources are welcome. (cheap, many cycles, fast and
reversible reaction, stable on room temperature)

WHY? There is a close relation between developing high efficent solar
systems and storing the energy in an appropriate collector. If one could
find well working (many cycles) thermal stores, it could be possible to
conserve energy for a long time or even from the summer into the winter.
Since photovoltaic is still too expensive and needs immense investment for
developing and research, this is an approach which makes sense :).

I read about groups doing research on that subject. Who? Where? What?

sY
Claus

There is a company in Canada making reuseable heaters incorporating sodium
acetate. check "http://www.vip.awinc.com/thermopad/faq.htm
