They have a subsidiary, Omron Electronics, in Schaumburg, IL. I
believe that this is a subsidiary of Omron Corporation, located in
Japan. They're mainly known in our office for selling the world's
first fuzzy *decellerator*. It's a hardware fuzzy inference chip,
the FP3000, which actually performed *slower* in all of the
benchmarks
done by Siemens in Germany than the output of our *software*
product, the FCDS, did on a 80486-based PC.

Sorry for the "commercialism", but I still get a very unprofessional
giggle every time someone brings their stuff up.

As far as patents are concerned, I believe that they do have some
on certain *applications* of fuzzy logic. I have yet to see one
that they hold on fuzzy logic or fuzzy expert systems, per se.

PS: The FP3000 was about a factor of 5 times slower than our FC110
hardware product in these same benchmarks. The FC110 is the lowest-
performance hardware device we supply. Our latest operates about
four times faster than the FC110, and a new version that is under
development will be faster yet.
