I work for a special District in southern California as an "Industrial Waste Inspector". I'm getting 50K before taxes. I 'm told there are 200 certified Inspectors. Since each of us gets out to inspect around 400 businesses a year, there's still opportunity. I won't say this is glamorous work. The second time you're back at a transmission shop that's dumping pollutants into the sewer and the pot-bellied, cigar chomping owner provides you with some of the more colorful descriptive terms in his vocabulary, you may be asking yourself why you are there. Of course, the HazMat guys, the Health guys, the Code Enforcement guys and the air guys (or gals) get to ask themselves the same questions. Ask yourself, "What do I like to do?" Then look for someone who pays people to do it...
