My Macintosh-based Photoshop plug-in, "Expression" does exactly this. It doesn't use color tables, but rather allows you to use the Mandelbrot escape value as a variable in an expression. The program is an interpreter that evaluates individual expressions for the R, G, and B (or alternately, H, S & V) components of each pixel. It is quite powerful in this regard, although it is quite lacking in the user-friendly department :) The plug-in can also be used with Premiere or Debabelizer to create 24-bit movies of fractal zooms. There is also a 3D turbulence function that can be used to create movies of moving clouds, lightning, etc. Expression, which is freeware, is available at this site: ftp.netcom.com:/pub/jb/jbum -- -- -- Jim Bumgardner | jbum@netcom.com -- Burbank Sanitorium
