Mathematical constants are named after people who prove something important about them, e.g. their existence or their definition according to a certain formula. I have done nothing like that; my work is equivalent to what the graduate students would be told to do to support the professor's research. > Now, here's where the GIPPP can come into play. I see a paper coming out of this work. Yes, in fact, I would be willing to supervise such a project. However: * "Executable" is not possible. We'd have source code, and I'll have to write my own version of luams.c because I need a couple of new features in order to make it work effectively as a GRIPP program. * Don't consider taking part unless you have at least a 486DX 50, or a 68040, or a RISC-based workstation, or free time on a mainframe that's faster than the above. Why? Because each person's part will take an entire day to run on a SparcStation or equivalent. * It will take me at least a week to write the program and to determine the appropriate number of iterations for the project. The grid size is already decided: it would be the upper half-plane at 262144x131072. The number of iterations will probably be either 1048576 or 2097152. So, if you would like to participate, let me know by e-mail. If you have comments, post 'em here or mail them to me if you're shy. Please NOTE: The project is *not* starting yet. I just want to know who's interested. If we start, I'll post again to let everyone know and supply the source code. -- mrob's .sig #1 |____ RF(1/3B1) -> '\- collect all 5! |\RM/ Robert P.
