You may have noticed that service to SPANKY has been a little intermittent lately. I have been making some system changes and I needed some time to try some things out. I have changed the http server software over to a multi-threaded server so that up to 10 concurrent MOSAIC or LYNX sessions can take place. This should alleviate the problem I had when a slow client was down-loading a large image and nobody else could get served. It is a VAX native-mode server and also runs much faster although the directory structure that it presents isn't as informative. So if you were trying to access spanky via MOSAIC with URL=http://spanky.triumf.ca/ and found the response too frustrating you may be happier now. This may also remove the problem that I had with some client software not being able to access the database and even crashing the server. I think I have tested all the file transfer modes and they are working but if you have trouble then email me a description of the symptoms and I will try to work it out. The ftp server has not changes. SPANKY.TRIUMF.CA is still an anonymous ftp host. Hopefully, the new server will be as least as robust as the CERN code and the service will be reliable once again. Cheers, Noel Giffin Noel@triumf.ca
