And with that DEEPZOOM escaped to the NET. It plots Mandelbrot sets
using 72 digit arithmetic on MSDOS machines with super VGA (up to
1024x768). Images can be saved in PCX or GIF format. There are now
170 or more potential Mandelmaniacs who have asked for DEEPZOOM.
(Remember my warning to you about getting mentaly locked in a 40 digit
deep zoom, keep your medications handy. And you incurables, don't
even think of touching those implants!) Some of you have had fun with
it, but the real benefit is to have been an inspiration for Tim Wegner
<twegner@killerbee.jsc.nasa.gov> to add multiprecision Mandelbrot
generation to Fractint. A set of "unlimited" precision asssembler
routines for handling the math operations needed for generating
Mandelbrot & Julia sets has been created by Wesley Blake Loewer
<loewer@tenet.edu>. His integer routines prove about 4 times as fast
as the floating point used in DEEPZOOM. He has kindly provided these
for use in DEEPZOOM and Fractint.
DEEPZOOM has been at version 0.13 for a while. I may loose my present
net account before 0.14 is ready. Version 0.14 will also have improved
gif saving which Michael Sargent <msargent@moose.uvm.edu> helped me with.
In the mean while, Noel Giffin <noel@REG.TRIUMF.CA> told me he will be
glad to keep it on SPANKY.
Noel Giffin just sent me this:
|> I now have a latest version of deepzoom. It can be found on
|> SPANKY.TRIUMF.CA in the [pub.fractals.programs.ibmpc] directory
|> and it is accessable via anonymous ftp. It is there with the doc

Warmly,
