Two questions;
(1) general: is the 'geo' in this group geology or geophysical?
(2) specific: I would be interested in opinions about the scourge
of modern science.....
'the numerical model with the really nice output routine'.
Sometimes I feel that with the ever expanding computation and display power at
our fingertips leads to the over zealous application of models
for various systems. I know that any numeric simulation I've ever written,
while all-too-often good-looking, usually has a poorer grip on reality than
the author. In my case it intended to give *me* a better understanding of
the processes concerned; I realise that most people don't have the luxury
of being able to muck around...they have to produce something.
I have had some experience combatting the faith people put in the
results from computer simulation...especially when they see *that
great animated sequence*...will science go the way of many other
things (eg olympic TV coverage..TV itself..newspapers..cereal packets. blah
blah)... designing its communication for the attention span of a
...
Any comments?
Craig
ps I am certainly *not* aiming these comments directly at the routines
mentioned above..I have no knowledge of them.
