A faster, safer, and more efficient type of pipe bending machine is emerging from Canada. Heaman Pipe Bending Inc. of Edmonton, Canada has patented a new pipe bending system which eliminates the need for changing dies and liners when bending pipe of different sizes. This makes faster work of bending pipe in the field. The HPB System makes bending all pipe, including coated and insulated pipe, much safer by distributing the bending moment over a longer area. Pipe bending crews will save time and money by reducing or eliminating damage to the pipe or insulation. Another feature of this system is the ability to blend consecutive bends for a "picture perfect bend" every time. As a result of this, Heaman Pipe Benders can be used to field bend pipe for pipe risers to surface valves rather than the expense of hot bends and transportation to the work site. HPB is currently manufacturing three types of pipe benders. The 6-20 bender loads pipe from the side while the other is a 6-16 bender which is loaded from the end. The HPB Spring Shoe is designed to bend pipe two through eight inces in diameter. The HPB Spring Shoe Bender can be used to "slip- bend" with no damage to the pipe or the coating. This patented process has made this bender an industry leader. Since its introduction in 1996, the HPB Spring Shoe has virtually replaced the use of segmented- style shoe benders. The HPB Spring Shoe has become the "bender of choice" in Western Canada. For more information about these benders and their patents, contact Heaman Pipe Bending Inc., visit the web-site at: www.heaman.com or send email to info@heaman.com.
