Systems Administrator.
The Brain Behavior Laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania needs a system
manager to maintain and support a networked cluster of DEC-Alpha, SUN, Mac
and Windows computers.
PURPOSE:
--------
The lab is devoted to biomedical research in the areas of neuroimaging,
specifically seeking to develop computerized methods for integrating 2-D
and 3-D imaging on human brains with behavioral data. The system runs
software for image analysis, statistical analysis, data management,
research administration, business, and billing.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
-----------------
Serve as the "Super User" of the system, supervise database management,
direct the computer facility and plan and implement its future development,
work with a team of over 40 investigators and staff on optimizing use
of computer power, be on top of technological developments, and coordinate
all computer and associated purchases for the lab. Ability to do high level
data base management and/or statistical programming is a plus.
REQUIREMENTS:
-------------
At least a Masters degree in computer science or related areas (or
equivalent experience). Experience in VMS-OSF/UNIX/Windows/MacOS, networking,
mass storage media, data management (preferably Ingres or Oracle). The
ability to communicate with coworkers and other computer professionals in the
lab, the medical school, and the university is also very important.
Note for PhDs: Although it is possible to fulfill the requirements
with a computer degree, we will be happy to
consider PhD-level individuals (e.g. in the areas
of computer science, engineering, physics,
mathematics or mathematical psychology, AI,
neurosciences). In this case, it would be
possible to arrange for an appointment at the
faculty level with research possibilities,
provided they integrate with the research
programs of the laboratory.
SALARY RANGE: Depending on experience.
-------------
PERKS:
------
The lab is located in a leading medical research institution, with
close links to top computer science and engineering schools.
This provides for a stimulating work environment at the service of
alleviating human suffering. There are opportunities to participate
in national and international collaborations and be part of cutting-
edge developments in the scientific use of computers. Participation
in conferences and workshops is encouraged, after 6 months of
employment. There is a tuition waiver for courses taken at the
University, and tuition benefits are extended to spouse and children.
WE ARE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY/AFFIRMATIVE ACTION PROGRAM AND STRONGLY
ENCOURAGE MINORITIES AND WOMEN TO CONSIDER APPLYING FOR THE POSITION.
Please send your resume to me at the address below.
