Chain code

I am looking for programs that compute a chain code from a bi-level
raster image. I have plenty of descriptions of chain code (incomplete)
and implementations that do not always work.

I have some special cases to try out. Any suggestions?

(PS Archie is no help, I have looked at a lot of packages on the net)

Thanks.
