We have developed a fast & robust barcode decoder (i2-of-5, code-39) for 
decoding from images.  If your imaging application includes barcodes, this 
may be of interest to you.  In particular, this works in the Unix environment 
as a C/C++ level link-able library.  This library is currently being used 
at a large government organization - it has been reliably operating on 
thousands of images containing barcodes.
