Particle Paths

I'm working with VHS video of a complex water flow seeded with particles
and I'm trying to track the particles' paths.

Are there any "classic" texts or articles on this problem? Most of what
I've done so far has been image ehancement to remove all the background
noise, so now I have hundreds of frames of white dots.

Thanks in advance for your help,
