Here is a short description of the CCD camera project.
The camera project is described in C'T januari 1992, page 159-173.
two articles. 

The first article is called "ladungskuebel und eimerketten" 
which translates, I think, roughly with chargebullets and bucket chains.
It describes the chip called TC211, a CCD chip with 195x165 pixels,
produced by Texas Instruments. Summary:
 "In Electronic cameras almost exclusively CCDs are used as image 
 sensor. Principal way of working, powerful operation and pro's and
 cons are the theme of this background contribution. The CCD camera 
 used in the project, the TC211 is described in detail"
 
The second article, titled "Immer im bilde" (ever in focus?)
is about the interfacing of the chip with a computer. Abstract:
 "the modern findings of chip industry makes it possible to build a
 camera with interesting properties. The C't camera is special 
 because it has a digital image memory, which can be read out 
 though a connector asynchronously. Microcomputer independent
 operation is also possible, like single image recording with variable
 shutter times."
 
The CCD sensor is said to be 80 to 100 DeutschMark, about 60-80 dollar.
The interface consists of 23 intergrated circuits, amongst which a 
62256 RAM (32Kx8). A printed circuit board seems to be available.
