We came up with a very efficient way of computing the volume between two surfaces and the surface area. Time complexity is theta(n) where n is the number of pixels. This computing method is used in our paper entitled "Discontinuity-preserving and Viewpoint Invariant Reconstruction of Visible Surfaces using a First Order Regularization" which is to appear in the IEEE Int'l Conf. on Automation, robotics, and Computer Vision, Sigapore, September 1992. -- yi@ecn.purdue.edu
