Your best bet is to call around to other service bureaus! There
is no reason to charge more for negatives, except possible the
handling of changing the film in the camera. I have done this
rather routinely on a LaserGraphics LFR. Ektachrome-100 for
slides, Kodacolor-100 for prints.
Inverting the image is not enough. Look at color negative film --
there is a dense orange "mask" you would have to add electronically.
This is there to compensate for color response of the paper.
Suggestions (in order of preference):
(1) Find a service bureau that will shoot the Kodacolor-100 film.
(2) Print directly slides-to-paper (processes are available, I
don't know if suitable for home darkroom -- I have had it done
for me frequently for printing slides).
(3) Figure out how much orange to add to the color balance in PhotoShop.
I would create a known color patter, invert, add various degrees
of color balance, and add text to each example to say what you
have done. Spend the time/money on one test roll and you are
set from now on.
