I have recently completed video taping some flow visualization of coherent
structures in a turbulent boundary layer. I would like to know if there are
any pattern recognition routines available to locate arches or roll-ups. By
arches I mean objects that look like this:

        * *
       *   *
       *
        *

A roll-up would look similar to this but wound tighter around itself.
