I am interested in finding about Image Enhancement programs. I wish to use
these to enhance old (25-40 year) photographs. Most of the photographs are
black and white.  Examples of image enhancements would be: contrast increase,
smoothing cracks due to folding, smoothing of small peeled off areas etc.

Information about libraries/code would also be welcome.


Is NASA/JPL or other government enhancement software available to "the public?"


I know very little about image processing.
