Hardware for morphological operations

Hi!
We are the research group at SUNY/Buffalo. In our handwritten
word recognition system, we use a lot of morphological operations
in the pre-processing stage ( segmentation, feature extraction, etc. ).
However, they are very slow over the conventional machine. We are
considering to buy the dedicated hardware to speed up the system.
Dr. Haralick et. al. [1] mention in their paper that there are several
companies manufacture industrial vision machines which incorporate
video rate morphological operations: Machine Vision International,
Maitre, Synthetic Vision Systems, Vicom, Applied Intelligence Systems,
etc.

My questions are:
Does anybody out there have the experience on any of these products?
How does it perform? How can we contact these company?

Our requirements are:
(1) Basic morphological operations: erosion, dilation, opening and closing.
(2) Some image processing operations ( e.g. labeling ) and/or other advanced
morphological operations ( e.g. conditional dilation ) will be also
    helpful.
(3) A board which can be installed on SUN's SPARC-2 ( S-Bus ) is prefered.
(4) Easy programming.
Any information is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Mou-Yen

ERIM sells (actually fabricates to order) a machine which was designed
here called the Cytocomputer (cyto as in cellular). While it is
available as a standalone workstation, there is also a VME board
available which has many of the capabilities of the workstation. I
don't know the price but I expect its very expensive. I can put you
in touch with someone who knows more about it.

Applied Intelligent Systems, Inc. (AISI) is located in Ann Arbor.
They sell a number of Vision Computer products which are quite nice
and reasonable priced.
