For those of you who expressed interest in an Optical Character Recognition package, all of my code is now on polyslo.csc.calpoly.edu in the pub/ocr/ sub-directory of the anonymous ftp directory. There is a readme file that describes the three make files provided. The full program was originally coded to take a text image in PGM format and convert it to ascii text. ALong the way, it uses binarization, blobifying, hough transforms, and histogram normalization to overcome some of the difficulties, such as a scanned page of other than 0 degrees rotation from vertical. One of the makefiles creates an interactive program which will give you access to using the individual functions, such as hough transforms and binarizing, that might be useful outside of a character recognition package. Ill be on vacation for the next week, so any mail will be answered as soon as i return. Good luck. Shawn jacques jax@polyslo.csc.calpoly.edu sjacques@nemesis.calpoly.edu
