I am starting work on a project using image processing. We are hoping to be able to select out specific features in the cells of a tissue sample (by size, shape, brightness, etc.) and use obtain point coordinates for these features which may be used to construct a 3D model of the tissue for diagnostics. I currently have a package called /usr/image (written here, UNC-CH) which may or may not do what I want. In case it doesn't fulfill my needs, I am also looking at other image processing packages. At the

moment, I sales brouchures describing Sun's SunVision and Media Cybernetics' Image Pro, but these don't tell me much.

What I want from all of you out there:

Please mail me comments on any image processing packages that you are using and tell me what you think (especially pro/con). If I get enough interest in the info, I will summarize to the net.

Finally, if anybody wants more info, on /usr/image, mail me.

Thanks,
