Couldn't reach "genie.uottawa.com", so here is my aid via the group:

refernces on image coding
=========================

I'd like to recommend to you two articles, the first one

	Hiroshi Harashima/Fumio Kishino: Intelligent Image Coding and Communications
	with Realistic Sensations - Recent Trends", IEICE Transactions, Vol. E74,
	No. 6 June 1991 pp. 1582-1591

gives an overview on coding (incl. analysis-synthesis) and the second one

	H.G. Musmann/M. Hoetter/J. Ostermann: "Object-Oriented Analysis-Syntheis
	Coding of Moving Images", Signal Processing Image Communication Vol. 1,
	No. 2, October 1989, pp. 117-138

introduces to analysis-synthesis coding itself, that is currently in research worldwide
and seems to overcome subband or hybrid coding for low quality channels. (Of course,
since we are working on it.)
