Background correction

Hi,

I am interested in methods of performing background correction
(flat field correction). In the imaging setup that we use,
the light source which illuminates the object that we are imaging,
is non-uniform, as one moves away from the center towards the
boundary of the field of view. As a result of this, the 'grabbed'
image also exhibits the same kind of non-uniformity.
(ie, regions in the middle of the field of view are brighter than
regions towards the boundary). Can anybody suggest any methods
for doing this sort of correction or refer me to appropriate
   publications?

   Thanks,

	or
   somu@mirage.umdnj.edu
