Could someone give me of names of schools with strong research activities
and reputations in Image Processing ?
More specifically, in the areas of Low-Level Image Processing,
Image Analysis, Morphological Image Processing and Pattern Recognition
such as Face Recognition.

I'm looking for somewhere to go for my Phd.
Maybe this group isn't for this purpose , but I'd appreciate any pointers.
Thanks.

AZ.

Here is a short list of "good" places to go to (biased, of course! ;-)

McGill Research Center for Intelligent Machines
McGill University, Montreal, Canada
Profs: S. Zucker (low-level vision), M. Levine & F. Ferrie (image analysis)

Toronto University, Canada
Profs: G. Hinton (low-level vision, neural nets),
       J. Tsotos & D. Terzopoulos (image analysis)

MIT: AI Lab + Media Lab
Boston, USA
Profs: A. Pentland + B. Horn (image analysis),
       E. Adelson + T. Poggio (low-level vision),

Harvard, Boston, USA
Profs: P. Maragos (morpho. math), D. Mumford (image analysis - maths)
       P. Cavanagh (perception)

CMM, Ecole des Mines, France
Prof: J. Serra (morpho. math)

Linkoping University, Sweden
Profs: G. Granlund (image analysis), P. Danielsson (patt. rec., image proc.)

Utrecht Universitu, the Netherlands
Prof: J. Koenderink (low level vision)

[ List of universities deleted ]

The University of Alberta also has a research group involved in
image processing and robotics. We have students and profs doing
work in: vergince control, face recognition, edge detection,
character thinning, image compression, camera tracking, etc.
Wanted: 8-bit raw image viewer for PC

Hi, netter,

I will be very appreciate you help on this. I have a lot of image data
captured by CCD camera in 8-bit raw format, that is, 1 pixel 1 byte 256
greyscale. Instead of using image board to display them, I am wondering
if there are any program available on the net that can display it on IBMPC's
VGA screen. I don't want any fancy function like thresholding or someting,
just want a raw data viewer. The data size ususally 256*256 or 128*128.

We hav DOS, Window, and OS/2 in my lab so the platform should be
no problem.

Thanks in advance.

Piclab would load on raw format and even you can save in GIF afterwards.
It runs on MS-DOS.
