Supported by IEICE, IPSJ, IEEJ, JEIDA and AVIRG

You are invited to participate in the Second International Conference
on Document Analysis and Recognition to be held on October 20 - 22, 1993
at Tsukuba City Center, Tsukuba Science City, Japan.

The conference is sponsored by the International Association for Pattern
Recognition(IAPR) Technical Committees 11 and 10 and International
Graphonomics Society(IGS). This conference is the truly international
forum for identifying, encouraging and exchanging ideas on research,
development and novel applications of document related systems and
technologies. The topics that will be addressed include, but are not
limited to:

Document Structure Analysis Character Segmentation and Recognition
Map and Drawing Understanding Storage and Retrieval of Document Images
   On-Line Recognition Document Image Processing
Hypermedia Processing Theoretical and Psychological Approaches
   Implementations Applications and Systems
   Research Environments

Paper Submission Due February 15, 1993
          Acceptance Notification June 1, 1993
Final Camera Ready Due August 1, 1993

at the paper submission. All presentations will be in English.

PAPER SUBMISSION:

Papers should describe original and unpublished works. Those who wish to
present a paper are requested to submit four copies of a double-spaced,
A4-size, full-paper manuscript by February 15, 1993 to Prof. Y. Nakano at
the address shown below. The manuscript should be provided with all necessary
figures and tables. The first page of the manuscript should contain a title,
affiliation and mailing address of the contact author, and the second page
should include the title, 200-word abstract, and keywords. Accepted papers
for presentation will be published in the conference proceedings. The length
of the paper in the proceedings will be six pages (approximately 5000 words
including figures) for long papers and four pages (3500 words) for short and
poster papers. We do not review papers submitted by telefax and E-mail.

than 80 national research institutes. It is a spacious and pleasant place
where beautiful lakes and mountains are within one hour drive distance.
Things, including foods and accommodations, are much less expensive there
than in Tokyo. Tsukuba is located about 60 Km north from metropolitan
Tokyo and about 40 Km west of Narita International Airport. It takes only
one hour by highway bus from JR Tokyo Station.

STUDENT DISCOUNT:

To encourage students to participate in the conference, special registration
fee for students are being planned and inexpensive accommodations are being
prepared.

AWARD:

Two or three papers will be selected as award winners and given US$ 1,000
as the award.
