There's no such thing - tape formats vary with sensor and data source, like most other remote sensing data. Makes life interesting. I can read a number of the formats - drop me a note offline and let me know what you are interested in and I will try and help. Rick

I did some work with the Naval Weapons Center in Va. awhile back, and they were dumping tons of emitter data to a tape while flying through various areas. Is this what you are asking about? Thanx in advance. We collect a LOT of data that we analyze as well as package and send to others. Also we receive a lot of radar data (SAR imagery) from others to analyze. Generally, we store and send data in "8-8-4" format, which is 8 bits of real, 8 bits of imaginary, and 4 bits of exponent. We have received radar imagery in every format imaginable: two that stick out are complex integer data (unscaled) and data that has already been detected and is in 8 bit gray scale (or PIX) format. As far as I know, there is no single standard radar format; everyplace I know likes to store their I and Q differently. -- Jeff Nanis MIT Lincoln Lab An official opinion?
