I am taking a class in Statistical Pattern Recognition and Machine
Intelligence. The book that the instructor has chosen is simply the pits.
The notation is not standard and the author doesn't bother to give examples,
which is poor education IMHO. The instructor of the course is in agreement
with me. I am wondering if there are other resources that I might be able
to access to make my life a little easier in this class.

Thanks.

I have already recommended the book for pattern
recognition in comp.ai.
The book is:
	Pattern Recognition
	- Statistical, Structural and Neural Approaches -
	Robert Schalkoff
	John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
	ISBN 0-471-52974-5 (Hard-cover)
	ISBN 0-471-55238-0 (Paperback)

I have not finished it yet, but it seems good.
Hope this help.
