Actually down in San Diego, that cozy little border town, we always
used only the numbers to refer to freeways. Whenever I would venture
up north to LA, I was amazed that people chose to use multiple,
non-numeric names for the freeways. Things are changing a little bit
down south (last time I was home those odious traffic reporters had
started using the obscure names for some of the freeways, I guess for
variety), but I hope that it's still the land of neatly numbered
byways.
