NOTE FOLLOW-UPS! In almost everyone of my posts to this thread, I've set
them to sci.lang *only*, but people keep changing them back when they re-
ply. This discussion is not on topic for bit.listerv.autism and should
not be continued there.

See Mr Messinger's response--or any desk dictionary.

Likewise.

A word so big that you may have to look in a *college* dictionary for it.

It's not; it's a very accesible work. If you find it too daunting, start
in a general encyclopedia, like the _Colliers_ or _Britannica_. I wasn't
trying to be condescending. (Obviously, I am now--it only takes on surly
response to change my attitude.) I was just trying to avoid having to
type out a Linguistics 101 lecture.

Not I!

Regardless of where it started out, it's in sci.lang now--as anyone who
pays even the remotest attention to the Newsgroups line in the header
would realise. I don't know how you do things in your newsgroup, but I
assume you, too, have a FAQ so you don't have to explain what autism is to
every newbie who shows up. Why should you expect us to operate different-
ly?
