I read [*] that an ancient Hindu sect, the Jains, rejected the law of the excluded middle and instead believed in seven truth values, yielding their Doctrines of Maybe. Anyone know how they characterized these seven shades of truth? There are still about 100 million Jains around. Why don't you ask in soc.culture.indian or look around for someone whose surname is "Jain".
