Yes, it was a hoax.  They actually landed women on the moon, because
of women's superior robustness, and then dubbed their voices and hired
the reputed lunarnauts as fake body doubles for the women.

Thats actually why they wore spacesuits, while on the moon, with
helmets you couldn't see inside of.  They didn't want you to see
who was inside.
