Yes, ypsilon + iota pronunced slightly diferent than I. Like gamma+I. 
Thats why you write "gios" today and you pronunce "Yios" (like yiannis, 
yiorgos etc)

Yios of Ya became yiosoua or Iisous :-)

Anyway, i'm not fanatical. If you want, post your opinion about the root 
of the word "jesus"
