Hi there,
I'm writing a paper where I need to use the notion of
a degree of a proper map between (noncompact) manifolds.
Since the presumed readers will not be topologists, I
feel that a reference would be beneficial, but I did
not manage to locate a textbook which deals with the
notion of degree in the noncompact case.  I would very
much appreciate help in this matter.
