Is it possible to account for measurement error when performing an ANOVA test? How? I am planning an experiment with chemical concentrations measured by a laboratory as the continuous-level variable. I plan to use two-way, mixed-model, ANOVA to analyze the results (two fixed effect levels, three random effect levels, equal numbers of scores per cell). I can independently estimate the measurement error variance due to sample collection and laboratory analysis. But how can I use this information in my ANOVA? BTW, I have seen several articles on accounting for measurement error in the calculation of intervals (listed below). Is there a similar approach for ANOVA? In "Journal of Quality Technology": "Tolerance Limits and Bounds for Proportions Based on Data Subject to Measurement Error." Robert Mee. Vol 16, No. 2, pp. 74, April 1984. "Removing the Effects of Measurement Error in Constructing Statistical Tolerance Intervals." John L. Jaech. Vol 16, No. 2, pp. 69, April 1984. "Removing Measurement Error in Assessing Conformance to Specifications." Gerald J. Hahn. Vol. 14, No. 3, pp. 117, July 1982.
