I'm posting this for my friends at NISS. Feel free to pass it
along to anybody you think might be interested. Of course replies
should go to NISS, not me. -Art Owen

                                 POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWS

                      NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF STATISTICAL SCIENCES

The National Institute of Statistical Sciences (NISS) is
accepting applications for postdoctoral positions as Junior
Fellows. Funding is anticipated to enable appointments beginning
January 1, 1993, but actual starting dates are flexible.

In accordance with the NISS mission to stimulate and nurture
collaboration among statisticians and other scientists from
universities, industry, national laboratories and government,
Junior Fellows will participate in one (or more) specific
research projects, under the mentorship of senior statisticians
and scientists. The first projects will be in areas of
environmental modeling and monitoring, toxicology, computer-aided
drug design and global climate modeling. Project areas in
development include materials science and large-scale educational
           studies.

Criteria for selection include demonstrated research ability,
interest and (to a lesser degree) experience in project areas,
interest in computation, facility in verbal and written
communication and genuine commitment to cross-disciplinary
           research.

Appointments will be for two years, with extensions possible. The
initial salary is expected to be $40,000 per year.

Applicants for positions starting in 1993 should have received a
doctorate in 1987 or later, or expect one before the starting
date of appointment. Women and members of minority groups are
           particularly encouraged to apply.

Applications should consist of a letter of interest containing
addresses (including e-mail), telephone numbers, and names of 3-4
references; a one-page biographical sketch including citizenship
status; a publication record or thesis topic with abstracts of
the most important items; and a one-page statement of interest
responding to the criteria and projects listed above. Use e-mail
if possible but also send "hard-copy".
